Now more than ever, we can celebrate these oft-forgotten moments in the spotlight even if we can’t make it to the diamond. Thanks to video games like MLB The Show, we are blessed with the chance to digitally dive into the colorful history of our national pastime.
What is MLB The Show?
MLB The Show is a Sony Interactive Entertainment exclusive video game series that first debuted in 2006. The series allows users to assume the role of any Major League Baseball player and face off against digital opponents (both human and CPU-controlled) in matches. Each game features an extensive roster of players from all 30 current MLB teams.
Legends Mode
Perhaps the most beloved aspect of the MLB The Show series is the Legends Mode. This mode allows the user to choose from a selection of historic greats from the last century of baseball. Players can be a part of moments specific to certain players, like Don Larsen’s Perfect Game in 1956 or Hank Aaron’s record-breaking 715th home run. A unique selection of different settings can also be chosen, letting the user completely customize the experience.
Player-Created Icons
The MLB The Show series also allows users to create their own customplayers. This allows die-hard fans to recapture some of the lost heroes of baseball and give them a renewed spirit on the digital diamond. From ozymandias to All-Star Sunday Showdowns, the MLB The Show series is filled with many great legends that can be found both old and new.
No matter who (or what) you choose to play as, MLB The Show offers a unique opportunity to celebrate some of the most legendary players in baseball history. From Jackie Robinson to Babe Ruth, the MLB The Show series has created a virtual hall of fame for us all to enjoy. So next time you find yourself holding a controller, take a moment to appreciate the greats of the past and those that paved the way for the present. Baseball ingenues will never forget the accomplishments of these immortals.
