Wayne Gretzky
Nobody has ever played the game as well as Wayne Gretzky. Playing from 1979 to 1999, Gretzky set an estimated 61 individual records during his time in the NHL. He scored 894 goals and had 1,963 assists, for a total of 2857 points over the course of just 20 years. Gretzky is considered the greatest hockey player in history for his unrivaled skill, superior strength, and unmatched passion for the game.
Mario Lemieux
During his 17 seasons in the NHL (1984 to 2006), Mario Lemieux earned the title of one of hockey’s greatest players. He was an exceptional goal scorer, achieving 690 goals throughout the course of his career, good for fourth all-time. Lemieux was a multi-dimensional player, being able to skate fast, set up plays quickly, and most importantly, score. His career was unfortunately cut short by health issues, but the achievements he gained remain legendary.
Bobby Orr
Bobby Orr was a legendary player in the NHL from 1966 to 1978. His career was short, but he had a lasting impact on the game. He is the first defenseman to ever lead the league in scoring, and he accomplished it twice. Orr even won two consecutive Art Ross Trophies, the award given to the top point-scorer in the NHL, during the 1969-70 and 1974-75 seasons. He revolutionized the position of defenseman with his skating, passing, and scoring abilities.
Gordie Howe
Gordie Howe played an astounding 32 seasons in the NHL (1946-1980). Nicknamed “Mr. Hockey,” it’s no surprise that Howe is a living legend in the game. He was an all-around impressive player, constantly setting records in both scoring and goaltending. Howe was the first player to ever reach 1,000 goals, and he also held the record for most total points scored for nearly four decades. He was the complete package;any NHL fan would be honored to call Howe one of the greatest to ever play the game.
